Why is the liver important?

psst, hover over parts!

But... things can go wrong causing liver failure. The main causes are:

Hepatitis C
Virus that infects the liver.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Cancer in the liver, occurs with patients with underlying chronic liver disease and cirrhosis.

Alcoholism
Addiction to the consumption of alcoholic drink; alcohol dependency.

These all result in people needing a healthy new liver.

Why should I give?

It's a life-saving gift
You can give life, even in death.
It's 100% free!
You'll get to become a real superhero.

In the UK:
6,635 people are on waiting list.
16,087 deaths with a 4.5 increase every year from liver failure.

In the US:
17,000 people are on waiting list.
~6,000 liver transplants are performed per year.

Other countries:
Germany, like the UK, has an opt in system resulting in 12% donors.
Austria has an opt out system, with 99.9% donors.

Did you know? Unlike other organs, the liver can regenerate, growing back to full size within 6 months.

OK... But how do I know it'll make much of a difference?

This is Emma Robertson
It has been 10 years since my liver transplantation and all I have had was positive outcomes and no complications.

This transplantation has not only been life-saving to me but also life changing.

I am so grateful to be given this precious gift of life when I was hopeless and most importantly the opportunity to see my children grow into adults.

This is Ben Good
My father’s life was saved 15 years ago after he had a liver transplant as a treatment for liver failure.

Today, my wife and I are both registered organ donors to give other families the opportunity to live with their loved ones for as long as possible

This is Zac Smith
I had a liver transplant 3 years ago when I conducted Hepatitis C which resulted in liver failure.

I still remember the days I was in the hospital and the day the doctor announced to me that a liver donor was found.

I have been healthy ever since and I could not be more thankful to the person who saved my life by registering as an organ donor.

This is Bill.

Bill has opt-in for liver donation.

Bill doesn't want his liver to be wasted while someone else's life could be saved.

Bill did #GivaLiva.

Bill is smart.

Be Like Bill,

it takes less than a minute to opt-in!
